Tips for Better Brewing
With BUNN, you'll always brew better! But here's some do's and don'ts to ensure a rich, smooth cup every time:
  • Do use enough coffee! We recommend 1-2 tablespoons per 6 oz. cup - or about 1.5 inches of coffee in a BUNN flat-bottom filter. With too little coffee, grounds get over-extracted, leaving a bitter taste.

  • Do store grounds in a dry, airtight container to preserve freshness and flavor. Avoid excess heat or cold and remember - bean and grounds have a 'best before' date!

  • Do use the right-sized filter, and toss the filter and grounds right after brewing to stop bitterness from dripping through.

  • Don't 'bake' your coffee! If you're holding coffee for more than 20-30 minutes, use a thermal carafe - it'll stay fresh and flavorful for over an hour.

  • Don't reuse coffee grounds - used grounds don't have any flavor left.

  • Don't reheat cold coffee. Reheating causes bitterness.

  • Do clean your decanter daily. Acids and other organic materials can build up and spoil the flavor of your next pot.
